Working on an expedited schedule in order to complete the renovations and open for the 2012 wine season, ILEX closely collaborated with the architectural and design team to create spaces that are at once light, inviting and rustic, yet sleek and contemporary as well. The renovations were undertaken in five main areas of the property, including the rear terrace, tasting room, market, gallery and event hall.
On the rear terrace, a new bluestone patio replaced old stamped concrete, and exterior brick walls were replaced with stucco. Existing stone on the building was matched and tied into the new stone patio walls, which were finished with bluestone caps. An artful pergola made of Western Red Cedar was punctuated by gray shade sails, and an exterior gas and wood burning fireplace was added for warmth and ambiance.
In the tasting room, ILEX Woodworking created a custom 38-foot-long serpentine bar made of reclaimed oak with metal accent strapping and stained concrete tops. A matching serpentine element displaying the pendant light fixtures was installed directly above the bar. A backbar that performs double duty as a wine bottle display and storage unit was built, and the existing gas log fireplace was removed and replaced with a unique wood burning double-sided fireplace. New 10-foot-tall doors were installed at either end of the room, and new windows throughout bathe the space in sunlight. The winery’s gallery and spacious event hall were outfitted with new light fixtures, and fresh off-white paint was applied to the walls and windows in order to to lighten the dark stained surfaces. In the market, walls were removed to make way for a new retail space.
