Open Air Great Room

designed to both enjoy and withstand its environment

Designed with a keen understanding for the way in which climate and ecology impact a home’s location, this newly-completed screened great room maximizes the homeowners’ panoramic views and extends outdoor living into three out of the four seasons.

Project Type:
new addition

Distinguishing Fact:
a roof monitor with operable windows and weep holes in the baseboards

brick, juparana granite, black powder-coated stainless steel screens

Measuring 40 feet by 19 feet, with an airy 17 foot ceiling, the room includes a roof monitor complete with operable windows for additional light and air circulation. The generous floor plan incorporates a fully-equipped corner kitchen with a grill station and salt-treated appliances, as well as pale yellow cabinets on stainless steel legs and honed Juparana granite countertops. An ample dining area and an inviting seating area by the grand brick fireplace round out the family space.

Located a mere 100 feet from the water's edge, the addition features black powder-coated stainless steel screen panels that are barely visible as well as broad eaves that offer protection from the elements...while still allowing those inside to enjoy nature's warm breezes and gentle rains. With a nod to practicality, the addition's brick floor can be easily hosed down thanks to weep holes in the baseboards.

Several factors help the great room integrate effortlessly with the rest of the house, including the spacing of the columns, which mirror the positioning of the home's windows, and the color of the interior woodwork, which is painted to match the home.
