Family Getaway

a custom-built vacation home for an active family

This outdoorsy family of five found the perfect site to get away from the city. The only obstacle? An old house which had to be torn down to make way for a new home.

Project Type:
tear down and new construction

Distinguishing Feature:
a concealed hvac system featuring returns which are built into the kitchen’s coffered ceiling and the family room’s crown moulding

Size:
6,500 square feet

Handling all aspects of the tear down and rebuilding, ILEX worked collaboratively with the homeowners and their architect to create an ideal retreat with easy access to the beach, golf, skeet shooting and boating. The hub of the home is the award-winning kitchen-family-breakfast room combination where the custom design ensures as many water views as possible while also delivering a highly functional space.

The painted cabinets, bead board flat panels, and walk-in pantry all create a sense of tranquility that is crucial in a vacation home design. The multifunctional space includes an island, a salad prep sink, recycling bins and a custom paneled GE monogram under-counter refrigerator/freezer unit. A full-sized Subzero refrigerator, Sub-Zero wine storage unit, Wolf double oven and custom paneled warming drawers round out the space.

Many attractive “green” features were incorporated including automatic lighting when the pantry door opens and a concealed HVAC system. The kitchen's returns are built into the beamed coffered ceiling, while in the family room they are incorporated into the two-piece crown moulding. Supply grills are built into the breakfast room window seat baseboard as well. The elegant yet comfortable family room boasts stately columns, ILEX cabinetry with stainless steel screening to ventilate audiovisual equipment and a wet bar.
